Welcome Students and Parents to my PE page.  Our class Motto this year is 60 minutes a day.  

Some classes will be using pedometers to track their steps and use math to convert their steps into mileage.

President's Challenge
During the month of April and May of 2014 your student will be participating in the President's Challenge.  This Physical Fitness Program includes five events that measure muscular/endurance, heart/lung endurance, speed, agility and flexibility.    
Exciting news
Olive Elementary Physical Education students raised over $2,000.00 for the American Heart Association during our Hoops For Heart Event in March.  Great job OTE students!!!
60 Minutes a Day.

How much physical activity do children need?

Children and adolescents should do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of physical activity each day.

This may sound like a lot, but don't worry! Your child may already be meeting the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. And, you'll soon discover all the easy and enjoyable ways to help your child meet the recommendations. Encourage your child to participate in activities that are age-appropriate, enjoyable and offer variety! Just make sure your child or adolescent is doing three types of physical activity:

1. Aerobic Activity
Aerobic activity should make up most of your child's 60 or more minutes of physical activity each day. This can include either moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, or vigorous-intensity activity, such as running. Be sure to include vigorous-intensity aerobic activity on at least 3 days per week.

2. Muscle Strengthening

 Include muscle strengthening activities, such as gymnastics or push-ups, at least 3 days per week as part of your child's 60 or more minutes.

3. Bone Strengthening

 Include bone strengthening activities, such as jumping rope or running, at least 3 days per week as part of your child's 60 or more minutes.

Aerobic, Muscle- and Bone-Strengthening: What Counts?

To get you started, here is a list of possible activities that children and adolescents can do to meet the Guidelines. These activities serve as a guide, so encourage your child to do any of them, as long as they are age-appropriate.

Many of these activities fall under two or three different categories, making it possible for your child do each type of activity – vigorous-intensity aerobic, muscle- and bone-strengthening activity – on at least 3 days each week. Also, some activities, such as bicycling or basketball, can be done at either a moderate- or a vigorous-intensity, depending on your child's level of effort.
